(continued from Session 030)
The party has decided to explore the pyramid, accompanied by the four fire boys (but not the elemental). Morro sneaks in and sees three floating skulls then heads to the back of the party, holding his action. Orla sneaks in and casts slow, but only one of the three floating skulls is slowed. One of the skulls comes to the top of the steps and casts a fireball which Orla is able to counterspell. A second skull casts another fireball, which does significant damage to several party members.
Kestyn, Kiiv enter the room and engage in the fight. Morro and Orla stay back, with Morro doing ranged attacks. It becomes clear that slashing is more effective than piercing damage. The fire boys make their way into the room, and a bone naga emerges from the corner. Whipp engages the bone naga.
Kestyn has been paralyzed AND has a fire sphere over him. Everyone in the room except the fire boys takes damage from a fireball. At this point, the only enemies that remain are one floating skull and the spurting bone naga but the party has sustained damage, especially Kestyn, Whipp, and Orla. Kestyn, raging and reckless, kills the bone naga. Kiiv causes enough damage for the final skull to be spurting, but the skull is able to down Kestyn. The fire boys are able to kill the final enemy, Gulden lays hands on Kestyn to wake him up, and the party assesses its health.
Morro notices something strange about the wall between the room and the stairway and discovers a hidden door. He ventures in and sees a chest. After calling out to the group, Whipp joins Morro in the strange hidden room. As Morro advances, blades spring from the wall and do significant damage to Morro. After disentangling himself, Morro sees gems in the chest. Whipp and Morro load up the gems to take with them.
While deciding what to do next, the party observes that the room appears to be a dead end. Gulden also realizes that the skulls might regenerate if left in their current state. Kestyn runs to town to purchase some holy water and returns to the pyramid quickly. The party applies the holy water to the skulls and still has two holy waters to take with them. In need of healing, rest, and food, the party decides to exit the pyramid for rest. Everyone other than Whipp leaves their cursed items inside the pyramid, planning to return after a long rest.
The long rest is uneventful but much needed.
The party returns to the third floor of the pyramid and still cannot figure out a way to continue upward. After summoning Glorfinkel to check for any magic present in the walls/structure and finding none, the party returns to the first and second floors and investigates there. Still finding nothing, the party decides to scale the outside of the pyramid.
The party makes their way up the walls, finally reaching the third floor. As Kestyn and Orla walk around the outside of the third floor, they perceive that the surface under their feet feels different. It feels like a thin surface with metal underneath and they detect places to pull it open. Kestyn is able to lift the "lid" and discovers a flight of stairs going down. Kiiv activates his illuminating helm and he and Morro descend the stairs with the rest of the party following. We discover a set of stairs going up.
The stairs continue on, bypassing the fourth floor and continuing upward, eventually opening into a small room on the fifth floor. There are four piles of bones scattered about, and a five foot pedestal with intricate carvings. Kiiv detects that the piles of bones are actually undead and there is also an undead inside the pedestal, as well as several on the floor below. Kiiv gathers bones from each pile. After hitting a tripwire, the center of the ceiling collapses. Although the ceiling collapse hurts Kiiv a bit, he manages to throw the gathered bones down the stairs. Gulden interprets the language on the pedestal and it tells a tale of a wizard and his unfair death.
Whipp and Kestyn push the lid off the pedestal. They see a zombie-like undead staring at them.
