Muftigowen is the ancestral home of Gnomes, in western Tarleaux. It is bordered to the west by the sea, to the north by Duluum, to the east by Barston and Shaitam, and to the south by Fryzyr.
Muftigowen was at one time controlled by Barston, but has been independent for several centuries.
Approximately 60% of the residents of Muftigowen are Gnomes. The other 40% are mostly Halflings, with very few members of other races. Muftigowen architecture is normally not designed to support creatures taller than 4 feet.
Muftigoweners worship a variety of gods, including Garl Glittergold, Patron God of Gnomes, Gond, God of Craft; Leira, Goddess of Illusion; Lliira, Goddess of Joy; Tymora, Goddess of Good Fortune; Waukeen, Goddess of Trade; and Yondalla, Patron God of Halflings.
Muftigowen is a land of many hills covered in brush and bushes. Its temperate climate is very pleasant for most intelligent creatures.
Muftigowen is governed largely by its powerful guilds, which organize workers by their areas of expertise. There are many committees for issues such as justice, trade, foreign relations, and so forth, and each guild has one representative on each committee.
Residents of Muftigowen tend to build their homes and workshops on the tops of hills, as the valleys between them can easily become inundated during especially intense rainstorms. There are no major cities, but the entire region is densely populated enough that a family will be able to easily see a dozen other homes from their own.
Muftigoweners are loyal first to their immediate families, second to their guilds, and much less to their neighborhoods, races, or extended families.
Muftigowen is the industrial heart of the world, importing raw materials and exporting finished goods. The guilds of Muftigowen are very secretive about their means of production, and so many complicated products can only be made within Muftigowen.
One of the major guilds is of Fishermen, who use boats to collect food from the sea. Other regions of the world do not have the technology to support large-scale fishing, so seafood from Muftigowen has become a delicacy around the world.
